All involved displayed fine end-of-season fitness, reflecting consistent, high-quality training. Schreier beat his 2016 mark by one minute and 49 seconds, and Albrittain his by six seconds. Kahrs shaved seven seconds off his 2016 time. Jacob Kahrs '19, Sam Gilman '21 and Chris Avila '21 all finished close by in 33:43, 33:52, and 34:04, respectively. Kenneth Marshall '20 raced the 10k for the first time and came 44th in 33:19. Compared to 2016, McGovern picked up right where Nigel Bates '17, who ran 32:54 himself and was the top Eph, left off. Placing first for Williams and 33rd overall was William McGovern '20 in 32:54, a 15-second improvement over his 2016 performance on the course. With the day offering perfect racing conditions-60 degrees and cloudy-the Williams men performed admirably, and more than a few set personal bests. The runners from Williams were not counted in the scoring. Battle Road, featuring Williams alumni Greg Ferland '16 and Cole Townsend '15 was second with 54 points. In the overall competition, 24-year-old Julian Oakley of the Ocean State club ran an impressive 30:26, carrying his team to first place with 15 points. The USATF New England Cross Country Championships provide a setting for Williams to compete with several, formidable club teams from the New England area including Battle Road Track Club, Greater Boston Track Club, and many more. BOSTON, MA-Williams cross country traveled East today, giving some of its runners a golden opportunity to close the 2017 season on the speedy, 10-kilometer course at the historic Franklin park.
